Over the last few years primitive and farmhouse styles have replaced many of the traditional styles. The popular thing to do is paint a piece of furniture and sand or scratch it up so it’s “distressed.” For the month of January I decided to participate in an Upcycle Craft Challenge. The assignment was to upcycle anything made of plastic, glass, or metal. I chose to distress my bronze candlesticks to make them primitive style, and I am happy to say that I am extremely pleased with the results.Read More

As much as I love diffusing oils, let’s face it, some of them just stink! The idea for these fall pumpkin wreaths developed as I was creating them. I originally purchased multiple colors of burlap ribbon and planned for my project to include three wreath forms—red, brown, and orange—with rosettes attached. When I realized I didn’t have any scrap fabric that would match, the rosettes were out. For some reason, I was in a pumpkin, “orangey” mood, and my plans changed!Read More
Sometimes it’s difficult to find the perfect centerpiece for a kitchen table or some other focal point that needs a bit of décor. Holidays are always a fun time of year to decorate, but finding décor for the patriotic holidays that is classic, stylish, and on trend can be challenging. Let’s face it, some patriotic décor is super cute, and a lot of it is just plain tacky! Farmhouse style is definitely trendy right now. Go in any home store, and you will find it!Read More
Since July 4th holiday is coming up in less than a month, I recently decided to make a patriotic farmhouse style wreath. Farmhouse style is so trendy and makes a home feel welcoming and inviting, so what’s better than patriotic farmhouse décor to welcome my family as we go to-and-from home during these hot summer months?!!
When it comes to decorating with red, white, and blue for the holidays, I am pretty picky about the style with which I decorate.Read More
A couple years ago I wrote a post titled, Organization 101: Why I Have a Desk. If you decide to read the post, you will discover just how much I have enjoyed my desk over the years and why it has been so useful to me. You will also read that a new coat of paint has been on my to-do list since 2015!
When I first acquired the desk, I painted it crimson and pink. Honestly, it seemed like a good idea at the time, and I liked it back then, but it has become increasingly tacky to me in recent years! For one reason, it doesn’t really match any of my other decor. It has been tucked away in a corner in the guest room, and it didn’t look badly in there. However, I decided to move it to the kitchen area, and of course, it looked atrocious in that location since everything else is neutral tones!Read More
For the month of March I decided to participate in a blogging craft challenge along with a group of fabulously creative bloggers. I hope you will visit their sites and maybe even find a couple new people to follow!
Our assignment was to create a craft using items from a dollar store. The first time I went to the store and looked around, I came out empty handed. I was trying to come up with an original craft, and my creative juices just weren’t flowing that day.Read More
My most favorite flowers are tulips, so for spring 2018, I chose tulips of all different colors…pink, purple, red, and orange! If you have read any of my other seasonal gardening posts, you know I don’t have elaborate flower gardens. I mostly plant flowers in planters and pots, and those little plants bring me so much happiness as I walk through my kitchen and view them on the deck!Read More

I woke up the day after Christmas and realized my house had exploded with Christmas presents! We were all blessed with nice new things from our family, and these new treasures needed a home in our home if you know what I mean! Believe me, an orderly home helps create a happy home. By no means is order the only ingredient to a happy home…there are lots more like love and forgiveness, and the list could go on and on!Read More
At my last yard sale, my grandmother gave me a collection of wood slices that she had chopped from the limb of a cedar tree. I gladly took them because they looked like good craft material! I began Internet searching for ideas and came across all kinds of cute designs and finally just came up with something random.Read More
Decorating at Christmas is such an exciting event. In fact, this year, we put our Christmas tree up almost two weeks before Thanksgiving, and I have enjoyed it so much that an early tree is a new tradition! We didn’t ignore Thanksgiving by any means. It was still celebrated in our hearts and tummies, but it was nice to have the tree already up to help us sail right into the Christmas season.Read More

I have a yard sale once or twice a year. It helps our family make extra cash and keeps our house purged of unnecessary and no longer needed items. I don’t really attend many yard sales because it seems I always need to clean out clutter, and I don’t want to add to it!Read More
We have had an unusual amount of rain this summer. Afternoon showers just seem like a normal part of our days recently. I always love a bright summer day as it makes everything inside seem more cheerful the minute the blinds are open. Since the sunny days have been fewer lately, I have found ways to brighten our home on the inside even when it’s darker outside.Read More
I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of stains on clothing lately, and I spend much time standing at the washing machine scrubbing. As much as I would like to wash those stains out immediately, it just doesn’t usually happen and the stains end up dried on!
In the past, I used my stain removers and rubbed the fabric together hoping for the best, but one day, I had the bright idea to use a toothbrush to scrub the stain.Read More
We all have tasks and responsibilities around the house. It doesn’t matter if you are a single person who works 8-5 each day or a mother who spends a lot of time at home. Of the chores that we do on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis, some are more enjoyable and some are not so enjoyable! Sometimes I complete a task and have no thought about what I am doing, but there are those certain tasks that ALWAYS fill me with dread! These are my three least favorite chores…Read More
