When you think of an all-purpose cleaner, what comes to mind? Do you have a favorite brand that you trust and depend on for basic and hard jobs? Before I began using Thieves Household Cleaner, I just purchased whatever seemed right at the time. Here’s some info straight from Young Living to help you know the trustworthiness of the product.
Thieves Household Cleaner Product Summary
Combining naturally derived, plant-based ingredients, Thieves® Household Cleaner provides exceptional home cleaning power. This multipurpose solution can be used for virtually any surface in your home or office and is safe to use around every member of your family, including children and pets.
Why We Love It
A clean home smells as clean as it looks—which is why Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner not only gets the job done but smells amazing doing it! This concentrated formula works hard at spot cleaning carpet, degreasing kitchen surfaces, and everything in between. Plus, the addition of Thieves and Lemon essential oils makes it smell more like fall baking than harsh chemicals.
• Thieves Household Cleaner is formulated with naturally derived ingredients. No harsh chemicals means there’s no harsh chemical smell!
• Thieves Household Cleaner lets you harness the power and incredible spicy-sweet scent of Thieves essential oil blend in your home cleaning.
• Thieves Household Cleaner is a powerful, versatile formula. Add just 1 capful to 2–3 cups of water for an all-purpose cleaner, 1 capful to 1 cup for a heavy degreaser, or enough to baking soda to form a thick paste for a naturally derived scrubbing solution.
If you read my post, How to Clean an Oven…The Non-toxic Way, you may remember I listed several other ways I enjoy using the cleaner besides just cleaning the oven. If you haven’t read that post, be sure to check it out! By no means is that list exhaustive.
I’m always finding new ways to use the cleaner, and the most recent way involves cleaning some of my beauty tools!
Cleaning Beauty Tools with Thieves Household Cleaner
1. Clean Hair Brushes and Combs with Thieves Household Cleaner.
A couple weeks ago, I began noticing my hair brushes were rather gunky from hairspray. They just needed a good cleaning, and I decided to try out my trusty Thieves Household Cleaner. It did not disappoint!
I cleaned my bathroom sink and filled it with hot water and a couple capfuls of the cleaner. I let my brushes soak in the sink for about twenty minutes. Then I sprayed the brushes with the diluted Thieves Household Cleaner and scrubbed out the hairspray. Scrub is really the wrong word because the hairspray came off very easily! I basically just rubbed the hairspray off with my hands as I dipped the brushes in and out of the water to rinse off the residue. Once my hair brushes air dried, they were as good as new, and I was super impressed to have found a new way to use my cleaner!
If you have never used Thieves Household Cleaner you may be curious why I mentioned using diluted cleaner. When you purchase a bottle of the product, it comes in a very concentrated formula that can be diluted to last for a longer period of time.
I own a spray bottle that holds 24 ounces of water, and I add one capful of Thieves Household Cleaner for every 8 ounces of water, and sometimes I add an extra capful or two for good measure! And in all reality, I have several spray bottles filled with Thieves Household Cleaner around my house between the bathrooms, laundry room, and kitchen!
2. Clean a Mascara Wand or Makeup Brush with Thieves Household Cleaner.
So the other day I was applying my mascara and dropped the wand into the bathroom sink. Just gross! I knew I couldn’t put it back in the mascara tube that way much less put it on my eyelashes, and then I remembered my little bottle of Thieves Household Cleaner so conveniently located in my bathroom! I whipped it out, sprayed the mascara wand and washed, rinsed, and dried it.
Mascara is expensive, and even though I usually keep an extra tube on hand, I didn’t want to throw out my perfectly good tube! Thieves Household Cleaner to the rescue! I have also used my cleaner to wash makeup brushes, and yes, I have dropped them in the sink too!
3. Clean a Toothbrush with Thieves Household Cleaner.
I guess a toothbrush is considered a beauty tool. It’s certainly not beautiful to have dirty teeth, so we will say a toothbrush beautifies the teeth! Whatever the case, I use an electric toothbrush with replaceable brush heads. We were on a trip last month in an area where you can’t just run to the store and buy a new toothbrush. My son was playing with my toothbrush in our room and dropped the head on the floor. Since I couldn’t get a new toothbrush, and I didn’t take along extra toothbrush heads, I cleaned my brush with very hot water and Thieves Household Cleaner. Yes, I had it with me because a bottle goes along with us on all family trips! In the scheme of things, a toothbrush really is germy, and it probably wouldn’t hurt to regularly clean it anyway!
This is probably not my last post about Thieves Household Cleaner. I love it because it’s safe, natural, and packed with a cleaning punch that leaves your home smelling like it’s ready for company! It’s truly an all-purpose cleaner that’s good enough for really dirty ovens, piano keys, and even those beauty tools that we use every day… plus so much more!
