Decorating at Christmas is such an exciting event.
In fact, this year, we put our Christmas tree up almost two weeks before Thanksgiving, and I have enjoyed it so much that an early tree is a new tradition! We didn’t ignore Thanksgiving by any means. It was still celebrated in our hearts and tummies, but it was nice to have the tree already up to help us sail right into the Christmas season.
I’ve never been overboard with decorations in the home, but my new favorite way to decorate is simple with fewer trinkets and less stuff. I totally admire all the magazines and blog pictures of modern day farmhouse homes decorated at Christmas…beautiful tables, cozy front porches, pristine living areas, and more, but for me, I’m usually looking for ways to downsize and make decorating simple. Décor rule of thumb…less is better, and you don’t have to display everything at one time.
This reindeer is one of my all-time favorite decorations. I have had him for several years now, but he is just so festive. I keep the flickering candle and the Willow Tree out year around, positioned in different ways on the mantle.
Don't Forget to Pin!
The tree and little birdie are placed on top of the piano. The colors and the style along with the black piano give a crisp, classic look!
My Merry Christmas blocks are supposed to look like this….
but sometimes they look like this… and I love it because it means the little people are enjoying the season too. And yes, my personality likes order and organization, so I am a work in progress learning that little ones like to explore and things aren’t always going to be “in place.”
I purchased this Christmas cactus almost five years ago and it has never bloomed. I am so happy to report that it has tons of blooms this year, and one of the blooms popped out before all the rest! It started to bud last year and stopped, so I was thrilled with the progress this year! One tip… I did re-pot the plant and moved it to a window. It must like its new home!
We have a couple different nativity scenes and a Flight to Egypt located around the house to remind us of the true meaning of Christmas.
I Timothy 1:15—This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
My sister-in-law bought me two sets of these battery operated bell lights this year, and I love the way they add some additional holiday cheer to tables!
Wise Men Still Seek Him…what a great reminder as I work in the kitchen!
And here’s my kitchen table! It’s not beautiful, but it’s practical, and we eat three meals a day here and sometimes read or do crafts or other activities. The vinyl tablecloth makes cleanup easy with two babies!
So there you have it, a tour of my simple home Christmas décor!
