This may sound a little silly, but buying produce at the grocery store is a fun task for me! From time to time I buy organic fruits and vegetables but not always. It depends on prices and what looks fresh.
I have favorite stores for purchasing fruits and vegetables but often go with convenience and buy close to home. Thankfully, we have a local produce stand that is open year around, but I shop there mostly during the spring and summer months.
Once my produce is home, quickly preparing it for use is the goal. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it doesn’t.
Washing the entire head of lettuce so it’s ready at a moment’s notice is best. I do the same with cucumbers and grapes. I wash and peel cucumbers, slice, and store in the fridge for easy access.
For grapes, I remove the fruit from the stems, wash, and store in baggies for quick snacks at home or while out. Baby carrots are also great to prepare in this way. Tomatoes are the exception because they taste better if left out to ripen, so I just wash and slice those as needed. The list could go on, but you get the idea.
A couple weeks ago I purchased romaine lettuce from the grocery store. I usually buy spinach or iceberg lettuce but purchased romaine on this particular grocery trip and even bought the organic kind.
Well, lo and behold, as I was washing it, I found these gnat-like insects in the lettuce.
It was beyond disgusting to me, and I immediately whipped out my Thieves Fruit & Veggie Soak.
I’m usually faithful about using the veggie soak when washing things like grapes and strawberries, but a lot of times I just rinse lettuce really well and go from there.
Well, those little gnats reminded me that my fruit and veggie soak really is ideal for lettuce too, and I felt much better about avoiding the buggy lettuce! I prefer my lettuce bug-free and whatever else free too!
Young Living’s Fruit & Veggie Soak uses DiGize, Thieves, and Purification oils for cleaning produce in a safe and non-toxic fashion. It’s convenient and easy to use, and it lasts a long time too! Simply add it to a container of water, soak the produce, rinse, and eat your fruits and veggies! Thieves Fruit & Veggie Spray is also available for convenience on-the-go.
So next time you sit down for that delicious dinner, just remember Young Living’s Fruit and Veggie Soak before you take a bite of that salad! Where have the vegetables been and what’s hiding in that lettuce?
