I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of stains on clothing lately, and I spend much time standing at the washing machine scrubbing. As much as I would like to wash those stains out immediately, it just doesn’t usually happen and the stains end up dried on! Baby food is one of the worst offenders for stains. Almost every baby food choice is an orangey color, and that color is the most difficult to remove! Plus, I’m always spilling something on my clothes, so these two combinations, along with a growing boy and a husband who wears a dress shirt every day, make for lots of scrub time.
I have two favorite stain removers that are safe and nontoxic. The first is Thieves Household Cleaner. I also really like the Norwex Stain Remover. Both of these are excellent products that remove the stain, and I feel good about using them in my family’s laundry.
In the past, I used my stain removers and rubbed the fabric together hoping for the best, but one day, I had the bright idea to use a toothbrush to scrub the stain.
Maybe you already do this and it just took me a long time to think up the idea, but it is a wonderful addition to my laundry routine! I typically wet the fabric where the stain is located, add the stain remover, scrub with the toothbrush, and rinse. If the stain is really bad, I repeat until the stain is out and then wash the item(s) with the other laundry. We use electric toothbrushes at my house, so we always have plenty of those “free” toothbrushes from our dental visits. Who would have imagined I could put them to good use in the laundry room? Happy scrubbing!
