Jesus, A Friend to the Friendless

Jesus, A Friend to the Friendless

July 23, 2017

During the course of my life, I have had moments and times when I feel friendless or feel like I have very few true friends.

The Bible reminds us that in order to have friends, we must show ourselves friendly. But what happens when you are friendly to others and they aren’t friendly to you? Unfortunately, this isn’t just junior high relationships, although it is common in that realm. People are people. Some are nice, some are friendly, and others are snobbish and unkind. It’s easy to become depressed, sad, and feel very alone if we keep our eyes on people and circumstances.

However, our true joy is found only in Jesus Christ and what He has done for us by redeeming us through His blood.

Proverbs 18:24b

…and there is a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

When I feel friendless, the correct response is to meditate and focus on Jesus’s work in my life and what He is doing in and through me.

Praying to the Lord and reading His Word allow the Holy Spirit’s work in my life. He comes alongside and picks me up, just as the shepherd picks up the tiny lamb with a wounded leg. So the next time you have the “mullygrubs” and you throw a pity party for yourself with only one in attendance, just remember, the Lord is there. He’s watching, listening, and waiting for you to call upon Him. He’s there to strengthen you and lift you to a better place.
