Tru by Hilton® Staunton, Virginia Hotel Review

Tru by Hilton® Staunton, Virginia | I-81 Hotel Review

January 3, 2021

This post is sponsored by Tru by Hilton® Staunton. All opinions are 100% my own. Please see my disclosure policy.

A couple years ago, my family discovered a little restaurant when traveling on I-81 in Virginia. Mrs. Rowe’s is a homestyle restaurant with delicious homemade entrees and vegetables. It is conveniently located right off Exit 222, and it’s the perfect place to stop for a home-cooked meal.

The food is delightful, the service is excellent, and the location is quiet and out-of-the-way.

Since we have stopped to eat at Mrs. Rowe’s Restaurant several times, I have casually noticed the other restaurant and hotel options available off the Staunton exit. Tru by Hilton® Staunton opened in November of 2018. I remember when the hotel was being built and made a mental note that I would like to try the newer Hilton® brand in the future.

Tru® has the trustworthiness of the Hilton® brand with a more minimalist style and an affordable price tag.

I like to think of Tru® as a great hotel for an individual or family to stay overnight when passing through an area. I-81 is a heavily traveled interstate where people regularly need overnight lodging, so that’s one reason Tru by Hilton® is the perfect option for the Staunton, Virginia location.

Kristy, one of the managers at Tru by Hilton® Staunton, was professional, kind, and helpful in my interactions with her. She scheduled our reservations and sent email confirmation to me immediately.

We arrived at the hotel around 3:30 p.m. I always like arriving before dark, especially during the winter months. The check-in attendant greeted my husband and gave him the cardkey to our first-floor room. The convenience of a first-floor room is always my favorite when staying overnight.  After we checked in, we went to Mrs. Rowe’s for dinner and returned to our room for the rest of the evening.

The rooms at Tru by Hilton® are efficiently designed and compact, yet comfortable. Even though the rooms are smaller, my family of four had plenty of room to rest and relax.

Hooks and an open closet were available to hang our clothing and other bags. A long shelf, which also held the expansive flat-screen TV, was a nice spot to place belongings and small bags. A mini roller desk with chair fit under the shelf.

Our in-room bathroom was clean, the shower was bright and spacious, and the Not Soap Radio® lemon sugar hand wash was a treat.

The Tru® brand is known for bright décor, smaller rooms, and larger lobbies for gathering. Families can enjoy lounging in hanging basket chairs and competing at the foosball tables, while business travelers can use the cubby areas, all located in the expansive lobby.

Tru by Hilton® was originally designed for social interaction in the large lobbies. Even though COVID-19 currently requires social distancing, Tru® in Staunton has done a wonderful job compensating. Hilton® has partnered with Lysol® in the Hilton® Clean Stay program. At the time of our stay, a wipe station for guest use was located in the lobby for sanitizing seating areas.

The Staunton lobby is decorated with a large mural that features different area landmarks, and we also enjoyed the welcome feel of the Christmas décor.

It was really cold during our visit, but the nice patio and outdoor seating areas would be perfect for the warmer seasons.

Our overnight stay at Tru® included all the traditional hotel amenities: Free Wi-Fi, Complimentary Grab-and-Go Breakfast, Non-smoking rooms, Free Parking, Fitness Center, and Business Center

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, breakfast was grab-and-go with yogurt, bagels, boiled eggs, coffee, and hot chocolate. My children enjoyed breakfast in the comfort of our room before we checked out and continued our holiday travels. Maybe one day soon Tru® will be able to bring back their family-friendly breakfast bar with waffle boats, but until then, the grab-and-go option is a tasty substitute.

Thank you, Tru by Hilton® Staunton, Virginia for a comfy stay!
