DIY Wood Slice Christmas Ornaments

Wood Slice Christmas Ornaments

Homemade Wooden Christmas Ornaments

At my last yard sale, my grandmother gave me a collection of wood slices that she had chopped from the limb of a cedar tree. I gladly took them because they looked like good craft material! I began Internet searching for ideas and came across all kinds of cute designs and finally just came up with something random…

I began by drilling holes in a few of the wood slices so I could hang the ornaments on the tree.

Next, I spray painted the wood slices with paint that we already owned.

So far, free project! While browsing online, I saw some adorable wood slices that had wood burned lettering on them, but since I don’t own a wood burning device for making the lettering I decided against that option. I also considered vinyl lettering or a sticker of some sort before I found the perfect solution.

Wood Slice Christmas Ornaments Before and After

I was shopping in the Christmas section at a local store and noticed some miniature ornaments. These were the perfect items to hot glue to my wood slices!

I purchased the miniature ornaments and later on, my husband finished drilling holes in all the wood slices, and I finished the spray painting.

Christmas Ornament Hanging on a Tree

I have a piano recital/party at Christmastime for my music students, and we have refreshments after the recital and make a craft—usually a Christmas ornament—so naturally, the wood slice ornament was this year’s craft.

As a finishing touch, we looped ribbon or cord through the drilled holes and tied it at the top to make a hanger for these adorable wood slice Christmas ornaments.

I think everyone enjoyed this simple but very pretty craft to take home and hang on their Christmas trees.

I had extra supplies left over from the piano party, so I made several of the wood slice ornaments and have been using them as little Christmas gifts. One of my favorite things about these wooden Christmas ornaments is that all the wood slices are shaped differently, so each ornament is unique.
